About

Melissa Petersen, LMFT, works to help those struggling with the pain of past traumas, family dysfunction, and interpersonal conflicts to build self-efficacy and compassion for themselves and others in order to heal and move forward in their lives. Melissa helps children, teens, families, and first responders experiencing conflict to build empathy, structure, and cohesiveness in the family system. Parents learn how to implement positive strategies to decrease their child's behavior issues and increase effective communication in the family. Melissa has specialized knowledge, experience, and training in working with men and women firefighters, those retired from the fire service, and the families of firefighters. Melissa understands the impacts that being a first responder can have on an employee and their family. Melissa works diligently to support and encourage all clients towards positive changes for more rewarding lives through the use of EMDR therapy, trauma-focused therapy, family therapy, and child-centered play therapy. *New clients: Phone is the best method for initial contact. ———————- In The News: New Yorker Magazine: “What It’s Like to Fight a Megafire,” by M.R. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your session for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
